(Exclusive.) This week, the rank and file of The New York Times are attempting to deluge the inboxes of publisher A.G. Sulzberger, CEO Meredith Kopit Levien, Executive Editor Joe Kahn, and Managing Editors Carolyn Ryan and Marc Lacey in what the Times Guild has dubbed “pack the inbox”.
Members have been instructed to tell management that they deeply care about the five priorities that were laid out when they kicked off bargaining several weeks ago (wages, health cover, remote work, AI, and unionizing The Athletic).
It’s the first action from Guild members since The Gray Lady’s “ticking time bomb offer” expired on Saturday, when the current contract ran out. It has left both sides contemplating their next moves.
But inside the Times, some Guild members who spoke with Breaker are frustrated about the lack of progress on the key issue they care about …
