The Sulzberger annual BBQ will take place this weekend in Upstate New York, with the invitation considered a coveted ticket at The Gray Lady. In tonight’s edition, we examine who is in line to replace Executive Editor Joe Kahn when he eventually steps aside. In the course of our reporting from within 820 Eighth Avenue, we have learned of a diverse group of six potential successors.Ā

Plus, the Times’ hot Labor Summer is continuing to heat up with Managing Editors Marc Lacey and Carolyn Ryan telling Guild members ā€œwe need to find a better wayā€ after a return to the bargaining table Monday delivered little results. Read on to find out the new issue Guild members brought to negotiations this week and how much in wage increases Times members are forgoing as negotiations drag out.Ā

Also, the Atlantic and Harper’s Magazine have had a rather ungentlemanly disagreement for the last 170-odd years. Their ā€œfeudā€ was reignited recently with an attack on one of Harper’s longtime contributors, naturally prompting a strongly worded letter, sighted by Breaker. Find out below how Atlantic editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg has responded to the latest installment of the long-standing quarrel.

Finally, The Times of London plans to shake up its U.S. operation following a key departure, Tony Award winner John Lithgow makes a surprise appearance at a Penguin Random House book party, and we have a comprehensive reading, listening, and watching list, which means you don’t miss any media news this summer.

The Grill Lady Successors

(Exclusive.) On Saturday, some of The New York Times biggest bylines and most senior business leaders will come together in Upstate New York for the annual Sulzberger BBQ.

A couple of hundred guests will descend on the Catskills to be treated to a delicious spread of fried chicken, hot dogs, and a tasty potato and corn salad.Ā
