Welcome to the latest edition of Breaker.

Before we get into this week's scoops, we’re going to kick this edition off with a small favor to ask. At Breaker, we love knowing our content is inspiring conversations at your workplace and at the bar, but can we ask that you be mindful not to pass Breaker around too widely within your organization (a share here or there is fine).

Encourage your colleagues and friends to buy a subscription; otherwise, Breaker may end up sleeping rough – or worse yet, ask to crash on your couch! If your company is using auto forwards, please email us as we start rolling out group subscriptions. More on our fair use policy next month.

In tonight’s scoop-packed edition, six months after stepping down from the top job at MSNBC we reveal Rashida Jones’ new consulting gig – and the company she is helping advise that has its eyes set on U.S. acquisitions.

Also tonight, the Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE) is in the midst of celebrating its 50th anniversary. But when the largest journalism organization in the U.S. decided on a boat cruise in New Orleans as part of the festivities, they had no idea how things would go comically wrong.

Plus, we have a scene report from Ben Smith’s annual BBQ – find out below which media and establishment figures were in attendance. And details on law firm Clare Locke’s latest loss against a big media company.

Finally, you know it’s Tuesday because Substack co-founder (and chief writing officer) Hamish McKenzie is back with his weekly column, Hot Sauce. Tonight, his take on the rise and rise of TBPN and what it means for the future of broadcasting.

Mentioned tonight: A.G. Sulzberger, Shane Smith, Gerry Cardinale, Marc Benioff, Mark Guiducci, Jon Kelly, Sewell Chan, Jonathan Mahler, Matt Flegenheimer, Rupert Murdoch, Keith Poole, Ray Dalio, Jeff Fager, Matt Lauer, André Pienaar, Alan Suderman, Scott Pelley, Paul Sagan, Judy Woodruff, John Coogan, Jordi Hays, Dr. Phil, Michael Keaton, Len Blavatnik and more.
