Welcome to a special edition of Breaker, as we mark our first birthday, we thought what better way to celebrate than to give all of our subscribers a scoop.

A year ago this week, we hit send on the very first edition of Breaker. Zero Bond in sales talks with the owner of the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, an item about New York Times reporters Walt Bogdanich and Carson Kessler and a “careful reader” who turned out to be the husband of another NYT journalist, CAA signing Kamala Harris as a client, and the then president of CBS News, Adrienne Roark, leaving the network were among our first scoops.

Those who have been with us since the very beginning will have noted that Breaker has evolved over the last 12 months. More than 100 newsletters later, two seasons of The Breaker pod, and an old school downtown New York media party, here we are celebrating our first birthday. And yes, we also can’t believe we made it this far.

It’s thanks to you — our paying subscribers and the sources who help behind the scenes. We joke “never do a startup,” and while the last 12 months have been some of the hardest yakka over our two-decade career in journalism, it’s definitely been the most fun. Staking out the Sulzberger BBQ (and writing a food review). Breaking the Air Puck Deal. Reporting on reputation laundering in Washington. Capturing Bari Weiss and her “beefy bodyguards” at the Red Bird AGM. (“Oh, you're Lachlan,” she exclaimed as we peppered her with questions in the Breaker fedora) Taking on Michael Wolff and his ties to Epstein. Are just some of our favorite columns that have come out of left field.

So what’s next? This week, two interns start at Breaker — your subscription dollars are helping train the next generation in our caper. The Breaker pod is coming roaring back for season three later next month. And we have a couple of surprises we are working on behind the scenes as well.

But this newsletter will always remain the focus of our work. We said when we started Breaker that every edition we aim to tell you something you did not already know and make you laugh at something you do. Cheers for coming along for the ride. Here’s to many more saucy scooplets in year two of Breaker.

Mentioned tonight: Anderson Cooper, Bari Weiss, Ken Burns, Tanya Simon, Lesley Stahl, Scott Pelley, Bill Whitaker, Jon Wertheim, Cecilia Vega, Sharyn Alfonsi and more.

Cooper Clocks Out at CBS

(Exclusive.) On Sunday evening, Anderson Cooper introduced a package on 60 Minutes featuring famed filmmaker Ken Burns discussing what he thinks would surprise the nation's founders 250 years on.

It will be 60 Minutes viewers who will be surprised to learn that after almost 20 years with the venerable newsmagazine show, Cooper has decided to pass on a renewal offer with CBS and leave the show, according to people familiar with the matter.

Breaker has learned Cooper told CBS weeks ago that he …
